Overwatch Tournament  

  • The Tournament is 100% free to enter. Teams that make it to the semifinals will be given free access to the event to play out their matches in-person at Insomnia Dublin at The RDS on November 10th.

Rules 

1) General

  • Players must be registered on the following tournament battlefy page:  https://bit.ly/2k3vzNr 
  • Players must register with their battletag and play under that battletag. No “Smurf” or alternate accounts are allowed.
  • Rules are subject to change by Tournament Administrators at any given time if deemed necessary.
  • Any Tournament Administrator decisions are final.

2) Schedule

  • Tournament registration will close on October 20th at 9PM Irish time.
  • The online qualifier tournament matches will be played on October 25th-October 27th. It is your responsibility as a team to make sure your players are available to play from 7pm onwards on each of these days.
  • If necessary, additional qualifier tournament matches will be played on dates between 3-6th of November which will be organized by the Tournament Administrators and the Team Captains.
  • Each team is expected to be in the ingame lobby on time – any team that does not have it’s full roster in the lobby 15 minutes after their start time will be given a default loss.

3) Team Roster

3.1 Team Captain

  • Each team must have a designated captain. The captain is the link between the organizers, administrators and his team before, during and after the event.
  • The team captain must report the match result on the battlefy page after each match. 
  • The captain has to contact other captains during the tournament to coordinate the next game that has to be played.
  • The captain has to be reachable on Discord on all time during the tournament’s hours.
  • The captain has to frequently look at the tournament’s Discord channel to be aware of any announcement made by the Tournament Administrators.
  • The captain will be the spokesperson of the team in case of a dispute.

3.2 Substitute Players

  • Each team is allowed one substitute. The substitute must be added to the team roster on battlefy before the start of the tournament.
  • Players and substitutes are allowed to be in one team during the tournament. Any team with a player enrolled in more than one team will be disqualified.
  • Players can only be swapped between games.

3.3 Streaming / Spectators

  • Streaming is allowed with a delay set to a minimum of 3 minutes unless mentioned otherwise by a Tournament Administrator.
  • Ingame spectators are not allowed other than Insomnia Dublin staff / Stream production.

4) Tournament

Any disputes must be brought up to a Tournament Administrator through the tournament discord or the battlefy page. 

4.1 Tournament Rules

  • Every player must have their career profile visibility set to public in order for us to fairly seed the tournament.
  • Team rosters must consist of at least 6 players. 
  • 2-2-2 role lock will be enforced; 2 Tanks, 2 DPS, 2 Supports.
  • Changing in-game roles (i.e. Support to Tank) can be done only in between maps. You cannot change roles if map has already started
  • Control maps picked from the map pool are to be played as a best-of-3.

4.2 Tournament Format

  • Teams will be seeded into a double-elimination bracket based on their team skill rating average.
  • Qualifiers will be played as a best-of-3. 
  • Semi finals match will be played as a best-of-3 (final of the winner bracket and final of the loser bracket). The Semi finals will be played in-person in Insomnia Dublin.
  • The finals match will be played as a best-of-5, with the winner’s bracket finalist starting the series up 1 match to 0. The map rotation will be Control / Hybrid / 2CP / Payload / Control. The Finals are played in person in Insomnia Dublin. 

4.3 Tie Breaker

  • In case of a tie on Assault, Hybrid or Escort a best-of-3 Busan Control map is to be played. The winner of the best of 3 will win the tied map.

4.4 Map Pool

The highest seeded team will choose the first map from the map  pool presented below. The loser of each subsequent map will choose the map from the appropriate map type below.

The winning team from the previous map will choose the side – attack or defence – of the subsequent map.

Third Map: 2CP | Paris – Hanamura – Temple of Anubis

Best of 5:

4.6 Result

  • Both team captains are responsible to enter the correct result on the Battlefy page. Results must be submitted after all the games have been played. When a match is finished, contact the tournament administrator on Discord. If anything is unclear, the team captain should have screenshots of the end screen to declare victory/defeat.
  • 4.7 Technical Issues / Pauses
  • For any valid reasons (disconnection, lag, equipment issues, dispute), each team is allowed to pause the game for a maximum duration of 15 minutes. “Strategic” breaks are not allowed.
  • Team that request pauses need to announce the reason before or immediately after the game is paused.
  • The custom game host/moderator/player must pause the game immediately when a team requests it in the match chat. .
  • When resuming the game from pause, both teams need to confirm in chat that they are ready to continue.
  • If the total pause time of 15 minutes runs out, the game has to be resumed, no matter if the issue got fixed or not. If one team refuses to resume the game, the opposing team will receive a default win.
  • Tournament Administrators hold the right to request teams to pause during the match in case of any other issues, and the time used to pause the match will not count for the team it was requested to. 
  • Tournament Administrators hold the right to make the final call in regards to a pause.
  • Any proven false claim of an issue in order to benefit a team will result in disqualification from the tournament.

5) Code of conduct

All players are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship and maintain respect for one another, players and Insomnia Dublin staff. They are to treat others as they themselves would like to be treated. Any behaviour that is considered to be inappropriate and in violation of the code of conduct includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Non-fair-play behaviour, physical or verbal abuse towards players, staff, or any participant.
  • Acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with the intent to disrupt or undermine the legitimate operation of the Tournament, or to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person
  • Engaging in collusion, which is any agreement between two or more teams or players on different teams to predetermine the outcome of a game.
  • Hacking, exploiting, the use of any kind of cheating device and/or cheat programs, or any similar cheating method.
  • Cheating, manipulating game files, using unapproved game modifications, or any other method by which one may gain an unfair advantage over another player.
  • Engaging in violence or any activity which is deemed in the judgment of the Tournament Administrators to be immoral, unethical, disgraceful, or contrary to common standards of decency.


Any player who violates these rules may be disqualified. You can talk to the Tournament Administrator if you see any improper or suspicious behavior.
